Saturday 21st April 2018 BAS Lecture:
The ‘works of the old men’ in Arabia
by Professor David Kennedy
Professor David Kennedy will talk about his work in Arabia using aerial reconnaissance, high resolution satellite imagery, and excavation in Jordan which has revealed a huge number of sites in one of the world’s most inhospitable landscapes from Syria to the Yemen and in particular the volcanic lava fields. Sites found start in the Neolithic and progress through Roman military installations, the Umayyad Caliphate of the seventh century, the Ottoman (founded in the late thirteenth century) and British empires.
