However, no sooner had work got underway than Peter C discovered a Romano-British copper-alloy brooch in context within the dark organic deposits in Trench 2A from which a 40L bulk sample had been taken the previous day for post-ex analysis in the floatation tank. On being cleaned and compared to the diagnostic text books of brooch typology it is likely that this brooch is a Colchester Derivative brooch type of the Late-Flavian period (AD80-AD100). If confirmed this gives a date range for the bulk sample of organic deposit where the brooch was found.<\/p>\n\n\n
\n
<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"705\" height=\"940\" src=\"https:\/\/www.berksarch.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-23.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12844\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.berksarch.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-23.png 705w, https:\/\/www.berksarch.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-23-225x300.png 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px\" \/>
Figure 1.
