Saturday 21st November 2026 – BAS Lecture: Digging Down in Datchet

by John Powell, Wessex Archaeology

An Early Neolithic causewayed enclosure, oval monument and associated features.

The talk will discuss the fieldwork at Riding Court Farm, Datchet. The excavations carried out in advance of quarrying identified evidence for 12,000 years of human activity from flint scatters to post medieval land divisions.  Of most significance was the discovery of a previously unknown Early Neolithic causewayed enclosure.

John led the investigations for Wessex Archaeology in Datchet. He has spent 20 years excavating sites in the Middle Thames Valley and Southern England. He is currently working on the publication for the Datchet project and will share updates from the post-ex process.

2.00 pm for 2.30 pm at the RISC Centre, London Street, Reading RG1 4PS and from 2:15 on Zoom
