St Swithun’s Church, West Berkshire, RG20 8HA

Archaeological excavations led by the Berkshire Archaeological Society have been taking place at Wickham House during April-May 2026. This event is an opportunity to visit the site where these excavations are taking place to view the remains of Roman/Medieval Wickham, see some of the artefacts discovered and meet the archaeologists involved.

6pm – Welcome drinks/light refreshments
6:15pm – Short talk by Keith Abbott (BAS Excavation leader) covering the history of the site and discoveries made during the excavation
6:45pm – Tour of the excavation trenches and view artefacts discovered

Admission fee is £10, with all funds raised to support much‑needed repairs to St Swithun’s Church.

Visitors will be welcomed with a beverage and light refreshments, and will also have the chance to explore the beautiful church and its Saxon tower. The lecture outlining this season’s discoveries will be held inside the church, followed by a short 200m walk to the excavation site for a guided tour of the archaeology revealed. A selection of artefacts recovered during this season will also be on display.

Last year’s event was a sell out – so please book early to avoid disappointment at https://www.ticketsource.com/berkshire-archaeological-society/t-aazavaq
